Welcome to DDI2024
The 9th International Conference on Driver Distraction and Inattention
Theme: “Advances in the understanding and management of distraction and inattention for all road users.”
Welcome to the 9th International Conference on Driver Distraction and Inattention (DDI2024), which will take place at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in the US, October 22-24, 2024. The International Conference on Driver Distraction and Inattention is the primary international event on this topic, attracting delegates from more than 20 countries. It is designed to bring participants – from academia, industry and government – up-to-date on the developments and trends in the field of road user inattention and distraction. The conference features keynote speakers, plenary and parallel sessions, poster exhibition and a panel dialogue with experts, representing various disciplines in this line of research. Networking is also an important part of the conference, and we are looking forward to facilitating research dialogue between experts from all around the world, with the aim of understanding and addressing the safety and other challenges that driver distraction and inattention pose, and to save lives in traffic. This will be the first time that DDI will be run in America.
For a description of the general scope of the DDI conference and the focus topics for DDI2024, please see here;
DDI2024 follows the eight highly successful DDI Conferences held previously in Gothenburg, Sweden (2009, 2011, 2013, 2018, 2022), Sydney, Australia (2015), Paris, France (2017) and online (in 2021).
We co-operate with the high impact factor scientific journal Transportation Research Part F: Traffic Psychology and Behaviour, and the authors of the best abstracts and conference presentations will be invited to submit a full paper to a special issue of the journal. Accepted papers (after TRF’s review process) will be published in a regular TRF issue, then compiled in an online special issue. All conference abstracts will be peer-reviewed by at least two international experts on driver distraction and inattention, all of whom are members of the conference’s Scientific Committee. Previous years’ conference schedules and proceedings can be found here
The DDI conference series is co-organised by the SAFER Vehicle and Traffic Safety Centre at Chalmers in Sweden, the Université Gustave Eiffel, France, and the University of New South Wales Sydney, in Australia. The University of Michigan Transportation Institute (UMTRI) will join the organisation committee for the ninth edition of the conference. We are very pleased to welcome you to this important international road safety event!
Best regards,
